Accounting Software Options for Small Businesses
In my experience, I have discovered that many small businesses use Excel spreadsheets to keep track of their finances. While that system may work in the beginning stages of a business startup, spreadsheets will quickly become cumbersome as businesses expand and grow. There are many software options available. Here are some that I have used with great success.
QuickBooks Online
QuickBooks Online is a powerful accounting software that works very well for any size of business. QB offers various levels of their product that can be upgraded as the business grows. The software keeps track of vendors and expenses, creates invoices for customers, generates financial reports, and much more. Payroll options are also available. Most small businesses can begin with Simple Start or Essential Start. The software connects to the business bank account and transactions are automatically input into QB Online. As companies grow, the software can be upgraded to meet the demands of expanding businesses. They also offer a 30 day free trial which is a great option for companies who haven’t used any kind of software before.
Wave
Wave is a free accounting software. Although it isn’t as powerful as QB Online, its advantage is its simplicity. It is a great option for businesses that only have a few transactions to manage. This software is easy to use and includes invoicing, bill pay, and basic financial reports. It also connects to the business bank account. Payroll is available for a fee. This is a great option for small businesses that are just starting out and can’t afford accounting software.
TenantCloud
Tenant Cloud is a property management software that offers a free version (Basic) for landlords with less than 75 units. The Advanced version can handle up to 500 properties and can be synced with Quickbooks. This software keeps track of tenants, leases, and payments and offers various management reports.
Any of these options are great choices for small businesses. With the right software, most small businesses can complete their bookkeeping in 5-10 hours a month. A full-time bookkeeper is not needed.
